High School Graduation: Ten Basic Skills You Will Need For Adulthood

Imagine you are scheduled to say a few words in public in the very near future. You are probably nervous. Maybe you are even panicking. Possibly you are starting to think of how to skip this speech. Relax. You are one among millions who gets butterflies in stomach when asked to say few words in public. We do admire several people who possess this wonderful skill – public speaking and one of my favorites off late is the American President Barack Obama.

As so many leaders speak about, learning is the single mark of a great leader. To be the most interesting speaker in the world, commit to continuous learning. Discover the power of presenting on video, in virtual meetings and in high-stakes face-to-face settings.

It has been said that it started with ATMs and Walkmans. We are no longer obligated to stand in line at our financial institutions to do our banking. We can do it with a machine. The opportunity to talk to your neighbour while standing in line is lost as well as small talk with the teller. Grocery stores and many other ones now have self-checkouts. No need to interact with a check-out clerk anymore. Walkmans allowed us to walk and listen to our music, for our ears only, a great way to escape unwanted conversations. The Walkman developed into MP3 players and smart phones that while getting smaller in size have offered us more ways to escape the real world.

Research the topic of business networking. You will find that while there is lots written about the subject, finding practical tips and techniques can be challenging to find.

More and more busy professionals are turning to online solutions as a smart choice to build presentation training. The reasons are simple. Low cost, convenient and extremely flexible. Exactly the opposite of an in-person training or elite coaching with a media expert.

Visualize. You can learn how to overcome anxiety through visualization. This strategy allows you to face your fears head-on. You also feed subliminal messages to change your negative thinking.

Focus on one specific problem: Is there something bothering you about your business? Take some time to really define the problem and focus on it. The solution could be as simple as making a few call-outs every day or simply make sure that your clients’ know about a new service you are offering.

As I said in the introduction, if almost 50% of people are saying that they are shy, then odds are there will be a high number of shy people at any event. You won’t be alone!
