Team building away days are often viewed by employees as a kind of fun day off. Yes, you have to turn up, and you have to participate in the silly activities, but it’s better than the boring grind of being at work. That’s often the attitude of those who experience team building away days that have not been properly planned and properly carried out.
Corporate games, team building Team bonding activities Singapore and leadership exercises of old are dead! – People learn much better in a relaxed and fun environment. So all manner of group games and team bonding activities have been designed around crazy antics and fun day events such as “It’s A Knockout” games or Outward Bound courses. And I know what I’d rather do… have some fun outdoors!
It is amazing to me that families are doing less Team building activities that include the children. The parents seem to be just as socially active, but baby sitters are being hired more and more to take care of children while the parents pursue their desire to “get away”. Are we to believe that they mean by this that they want to “get away” from their children? Unfortunately, the answer is a resounding YES!. How sad. And we wonder why families grow further apart as the children age.
Line Up: Choose something like height, age, or last names alphabetically and divide everyone into two (or more, if there are quite a few people) teams. The first team to arrange itself in order is the winning team. You can even do this game a few different times, using different methods of sorting each time.
After a week, or even a few days, on an adventure like this, we will feel more comfortable with each other. We may even come to see our team members as friends, not just co-workers. The simple act of getting us out of the office serves to refresh us. We might even cancel those vacation days or our plan to call in “sick” due to fatigue.
Every exercise should have a purpose that is obvious to everyone involved. If it isn’t clear what the point is then perhaps that activity just isn’t the right one. Team building is about becoming bigger and stronger as a functioning unit. If that is not happening then you need to re-evaluate the exercises that you are choosing. Do not hesitate to take suggestions from your team in regards to team building. After all, it is about working together.
Camping. Not all outdoor kids are sucker for adrenalin rush. There are also those who may want to stay outside and far from their comfort zone, yet they stay away from those who seemed to have death wishes. For these types of outdoorsy people, camping is appropriate. Although camping are the best in African safaris, a nearby forest is good enough. It is cheap and not too far away from home, not to mention safe from the dangers of extreme activities. That is a relief already.
Builds trust. You have to trust your team that it will back you. That trust comes only with time. By the end of the day it is pretty much guaranteed that everybody would know that trusting is important part of growing.
